At 9:15PM Ann and I left our newly refurbished barn on the Sheehan Farm in nearby Red Hook NY feeling great.  The 15 recently born babies, were fed and fat. It was 0 degrees out so fortunatly none of the 20 pregnant does seemed like they would kid tonight. The hay feeders were full. The water buckets were full, clean and free of ice and hay.  It was 25
degrees in the barn and we were happy.
At 12:15AM we got a phone call that every farmer dreads.  "THE BARN IS ON FIRE!"  Minutes later, as I tried to get to the barn I was stopped by a fireman.  I said "I have goats in there". He quietly responded "Not any more".  I took the photo on the right at 1:21AM.  100 of my friends were dead.

While no new friends can replace old friends, Due to the astounding generosity of goat owners and so many other friends, neighbors and strangers, as of August 20th, six months after the fire, we have 115 new friends donated by over 25 people.

We have had four successful fund raising events:
The Clinton Cheese & Provisions, Specialty Grocery Store, who partnered with Poughkeepsie's Caffe Aurora Pastry Shop. The Beekman Arms in Rhinebeck New York.
Barcade, Jersey City. sponsored by one of our grazing clients, The Historic Jersey City & Harsimus Cemetery.
The Green Goats Jam @ Club Helsinki in Hudson NY

Thank you all for the amazing outpouring of help, goats, money and labor and all the encoragement and good wishes.
Larry, Ann and the rest of the Cihanek family
